1703, Nov. 15. - There was registered a bond for 100 merks by William Chalmer, glover in Elgin, to John Gordon, indweller in King-Edward. Elgin, June 10, 1691, before thir witnesses, John Gordon, shoemaker in Elgin, and Alexander Philp, merchant there (ibid.)

1705, - Bond for £40 by James Winchester, younger in Kinedor. to John Gordon, indweller there. Written by Alexander Gordon in Kinedor, and subscribed at Kinedor, December 31, 1705, befor thir witnesses, John Gordon, lawful son to said John Gordon in Kinedor, and the said Alexander Gordon, writer, forsaid.'

RELATIONSHIPS

Bulloch presents John Gordon of Kineddar as the father of the later Alexander Gordon of Salterhill. However, as in some other works of Bulloch, his studies in this branch of the Gordons, though of immense and irreplaceable value, were not complete. The dates do not appear to support the relationship he posits. The elder John Gordon of Kineddar was baptised in 1644. Alexander Gordon of Salterhill's child was born in 1667. The dating suggests that John and Alexander were brothers, and that they, like the earlier Elspeit, born in 1639, and Issobel, born in 1646, were children of James Gordon of Kineddar. Some of the legal references that Bulloch quotes may relate to the son of Alexander, also Alexander.

John Gordon of Kineddar did also have a son called Alexander born in 1675. While the legal references supplied by Bulloch might apply to that Alexander, the parish register baptismal records could not, for example the baptism record of daughter Lucrece Gordon in Drainie parish in 1671. ²

John married Merjorie GALT on 11 July 1674 in Drainie parish, Moray, Scotland.¹ (Merjorie GALT was born about 1650.)
