  General Notes:

'The Theodore Gordon MS. says he married "Jean Hartlie." The 1670 MS. calls her "Haitlie. " Both surnames seem quite unknown in Aberdeenshire: so he may have found the lady in London. She was dead by January 31, 1695, when General Patrick Gordon entered in his diary the words- I condoled with my uncle [name not given, but indexed as James] on the death of his wife, and thanked him for not
forgetting me and mine in his will ("Tagebuch," ii., 505). '
