Alexander married Margaret LINDSAY, daughter of Alexander LINDSAY Lord Spynie, Chamberlain to King James VI and Jean LYON.1 (Margaret LINDSAY was born about 1606, died on 11 March 1635 in Dun, Nairn, Scotland 1 and was buried on 4 April 1635 in Dun, Nairn, Scotland 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Margaret. As 'executrix of the late Alexander, Lord of Spynie, her father,' a decree in absence was obtained against her, on 15 November 1608, by Nathaniel Gerod, merchant in London, for £330. She was married to Alexander Erskine of Dun, by whom she had two sons, John and Alexander, and died at Dun 11 March 1635, and was 'honourably buried there upon Thursday, the 4 of April, being brought from a high looft above some of the houses without the place, and was carried upon two long hand spakes from thence through the closs to the Kirk, where she was interred in the old sepulchre of that house.' "

from Scots Peerage (vol 8) 1

Alexander next married Ann BETON, daughter of David BETON (BETHUNE) 7th of Creich and Eupham FORBES.2 (Ann BETON was born about 1622.)

  Marriage Notes:

In finding the identity of this second wife there has been some difficulty, but it seems certain that she was Ann Beaton, great-niece of the sprightly Mary Beaton of the Queen's Maries; though, looking at the sepulchral beldame who hangs above a staircase in the house of Dun,, it is nearly impossible to believe that. Her great-grandfather Robert, head of the ancient house of Creich in the kingdom of Fife, had been a page of honour to Mary Stuart when she went to France, and was later made Master of her Household, Heritable Steward of Fife and Keeper of Falkland.....

.....Having removed Ann from her fictitious place by the son, it is easy to transfer her to the unfilled niche by the father; and what helps to establish her there is the letter written to him by the contemporary Beaton of Creich, in which the writer addresses him as 'Much honoured Brother,' and signs himself 'Your affectionatt Brother till Death.'
