JOHN HAY, son of John H. of Muldavit of the family of Rannes (directly descended from William Hay of Talla, Tweedsmuir, 1479-1525), born Enzie; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1664); became schoolmaster of Keith; recommended by Presb. of Deer 20th Nov. 1667; pres. Dec. 1668; inst. (at Aberdeen) 19th April 1669; deprived by the Privy Council, 7th Nov. 1689, for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, etc. He retired to Nether Blaroch in Deskford, but intruded here repeatedly; died in 1713. [Banff Sas., 1713; Scot. Notes and Queries, 3rd ser., ii., 12.] [Ten years vacancy, though not declared vacant until 17th Sept. 1694.]
