There is recorded in the Elgin Commissary Records, September 13, 1690, a bond for £13 6s. 8d. by 'Alexander Gordon in Cloves' to John Laing, merchant in Elgin, dated Elgin, April 12, 1690, and written by Alexander Gordon himself." Alexander married Jean MORISON, daughter of George MORISON of Pitfour and Janet GORDON.1 2 (Jean MORISON was baptised on 5 February 1666 in Saint Nicholas parish, Aberdeen, Scotland 3 4.) Marriage Notes: ".... Alexander Gordon - who was the last Gordon in Cloves - married Jean Morison, probably a sister of Charles Morison of the Pitfour family of that surname .... who acquired the lands of Fetterangus from James Scott of Auchtydonald, who had secured sasine on them on 28th January, 1706, for an annual rent of £65 15s 2d Scots." |
