GORDON, John in Clashnoir, Jacobite 1745 2 3 4User ID: N963. General Notes: "1790 May 29th ... In the afternoon Johny Gordon, Tullichalm's Son, and Willie Catanach, from Banff, arrived from Scalan to be sent to Rome. They Brought Letters from Bishop Hay; Robert Gordon, Clashnoir, whose Father is dead; from Mr. Mclntosh; and from Mr. Mcpherson. Wrote to Bishop Hay, to meet him in Enzie; to Mr. Menzies of Pitfoddels; and to Lord Monboddo. Had received two Letters by Bishop Hay by the Boys." John married Jean NAIRN.1 2 (Jean NAIRN was born about 1715 and died in July 1772 2.) Marriage Notes: "2121- John. 1745, Ens.; but submitted himself. 1746, May 7, at home (Rosebery's List, 108). Resided at Clashmore [sic], Elgin (ibid.), his house ('at Clashnoir') was burned, 1746 (Lyon in Mourning, n. 333). A John Gordon in Clashnoir m. Janet Nairn, whose mortcloth cost 18s., 1772, Jul. 5." |
