General Notes:
"William Barclay of Seggat Mill b.around 1545 d. after 1590, married (around 1585?) with Mary Dempster b. at Cliftbog or Brechin? (daughter of Thomas Dempster of Auchterless/Muriesk (b.around 1545 .d.1620 Edingburgh.) and Jean Leslie of Balquhain) William B, had two halfbrothers 1) Walter (XVI th Laird of Towie, married to Elizabeth Hay of Dalgety) and 2) James Barclay.(died young?) William had also two brothers John (of Old Boutrie died after 1579) and Patrick Barclay (b. around 1545) William was also taking part in the battle of Corrichie October 28 th 1562, under the Earl of Huntly. He is included in a long list of Huntly´s supporters where he is called William Barclay," brother of the Lord of Tolly". When Williams halfbrother Walter Barclay (XVI Laird of Towie) in 1587 was murded (slain in Edingburgh) by William Meldrum, we find in "Letters of Slaynes" signed by both families to restore peace, William Barclay at the Myln of Seggat, and John Barclay "bretheren of the said Walter" mentioned."
noted in MacFarlane
Note: macFarlane genealogy has Elizabeth Forbes and Patrick barclay married in 1552, so William's birth year is surely premature. 1
William married Mary DEMPSTER, daughter of Thomas DEMPSTER of Muiresk and Jean LESLIE. (Mary DEMPSTER was born about 1569.)
