"Att Aberdein, the seventh day of Aprill, jaj yj hundreth nyntie seven yeirs (1697), in presence of Robert Cruickshanc of Banchorie, provost of the said burh, and Alex' Ragg, ane of the baillies of the same.

Compeared Alexr Gordon, merchant in Aberdein, son to the deceast Francis Gordon of Craig, and craved the witnessis after named might be examined anent the parentage of Charles Gordone, lauchfull sone to the deceast Alexr Gordon, merchant in Aberdein; and, accordingly, it wes judicially verified, be the depositions of Adam Gordone of Inverebrie; John Gordon, late baillie of Aberdein; Patrick Gordon of Harlaw; William Gordon, merchant in Aberdein; Doctor Patrick Chalmer of Lentusch; William Bisset and William Leslie, merchants in Aberdein, that the said Charles Gordone, who went abroad from this place in Aprill, 1680, to Dantzick, and is now merchant in Warsaw in Polland, wes lauchfull sone to the said umqahill Alexr Gordone, proereat betwixt him and Jean Chalmer, his spouse; and that the said Alexr Gordone wes lauchfull sone to John Gordon of Tilliangus, procreat betwixt him and Jannet Forbes, his spouse; and that the said John Gordon of Tilliangus wes lauchfull sone to William Gordon of Tilleangus, procreat betwixt him and Mary Gordon, his spouse; and that the said Mary Gordon wes lauchfull daughter to Alexr Gordon of Aradule; and that the said Jannet Forbes wes lauchfull daughter to Robert Forbes of Inver; and that the said Jean Chalmer wes lauchfull daughter to Gilbert Chalmer of Balbithan, procreat betwixt him and Elisabeth Reid, his spouse; and the said Gilbert Chalmer wes lauchfull sone to Andrew Chalmer of Balbithan, procreat betwixt him and Jealls Forbes, his spouse; and that the said Elisabeth Reid wes lauchfull daughter to Robert Reid of Inver; and that the said Jealls Forbes wes lauchfull daughter to William Forbes of Aslown. All which the forenamed witnessis deponed to be of verity. Wherupon the magistratts forsaids ordained ane formall birth breif or testificat to be extended theron in ample forme." (pages 363 and 364)

There is some erroneous conflation in the parentage, as described here, of John Gordon of Tilliangus: John's father was William, of the Gordons of Craig, married to Bessie Gordon, of the Knockespock Gordons.
Bessie's elder brother James Gordon 3rd of Knockespock was married to Margaret Gordon of the Arradoul Gordons. ²

Alexander married Jean CHALMER, daughter of Gilbert CHALMER 'of Balbithan' and Elisabeth REID.¹ (Jean CHALMER was born about 1635.)

"John Gordon of Tillieangus, who married Janet Forbes, and had : - Alexander Gordon, who married Jean Chalmers, and had : - Charles Gordon, who went to Poland in 1680."
