GORDON, Alexander 'of Briggs', Merchant in Garmouth 1

  • Born: About 1651
  • Marriage (1): DUNBAR, Agnes 1
  • Died: Before 15 June 1689 1

Other names for Alexander were GORDON, Alexander of Brigs, Garmouth 2 and GORDON, Alexr.3

  General Notes:

"The Rev. Stephen Ree, Boharm, ingeniously suggests that Alexander Gordon, merchant in Garmouth, and also designed 'Briggs,' 'of Briggs,' or 'Bridges,' may have been a son of William Gordon of Lunan. The theory is based on a statement that James Gordon, merchant in Garmouth, was a [full] cousin of Alexander Gordon of Briggs."

from Gordons of Cairnfield

Note:
Bulloch places this paragraph, on page 61, as if to refer to this Alexander Gordon. The relation shown here of the two named is uncle and nephew. Their dates suggest they were not of the same generation, but they were closely related.

However, if one takes the comment to refer to the son of Alexander Gordon and Agnes Dunbar, also named Alexander Gordon 'of Briggs', named on page 63, then that Alexander Gordon and James Gordon, merchant in Garmouth, were first cousins.
