(1735-1799) |
GEDDES, John RC Bishop, Right Reverend Mr 1
General Notes: John Geddes trained in the Scots College in Rome and was ordained in 1759. In the hardship and sometimes danger of 18th century north-eastern Scotland he worked in the Cabrach first of all and played an important part in restoring discipline and morale in the seminary at Scalan. After further work at Preshome, and in the Scots College in Spain, he returned to Scotland to be consecrated as bishop, co-adjutor with his friend and fellow student, Bishop Hay. He was an energetic, determined, idealistic and courteous man, whose life and work in difficult times has been rightly remembered by the later Catholic community. |
