"William de Johnston, son of the marriage between Gilbert de Johnston of Caskieben, and his second wife, the daughter of Sir Alexander Forbes of Pitsligo. He received in patrimony the lands of Ballindauch or Bandauch, in Aberdeenshire, and had from King James III. a crown charter of these lands, dated 31st August 1472. To whom this gentleman was married does not appear, but he had a son, Alexander de Johnston off Ballindauch"
