O'NEILL, Bernard in Cornakinnegar then in Piper Hill 1
User ID: L291. General Notes: The Registerd Freeholders Returns for County Armagh, Ireland, recorded Bernard O'Neal [sic] as a freeholder in the registry on 25 August 1813. His land and house had a value of 40/-, so he was one the "Forty Shillings Freeholders", Catholic or Protestant, who had the right to vote between 1793 and 1829. In the return, Bernard's residence or 'place of abode' was recorded as 'Cornikinigar', in the barony of Oneilland East, and his landlord as 'William Brownlow Esquire'. In the section 'Names of Lives or other Tenure', the names 'Bernard, Arthur and Michael O'Neill' [sic] were entered. Freeholders held their property either as outright owners, called fee simple, or by a lease for a life or lives, that is for the term of his life or the three lives named in the lease. The latter appears to be the case here. Bernard married Sarah HENDERSON. (Sarah HENDERSON was born about 1804 in Ireland.) |
