"Strachan
December 23d 1703, Thomas Strachan present bailie; and Elisabeth Brodie his spouse had a son named James baptised by Mr James Farquhar Minister of the Gospell at Tyrie Mr James Osburn Minister DD and James Morison Merchant late Master of the Kirkwork Godfathers"

James Strachan was a merchant in Aberdeen. He died insolvent, and a court case arose as a result of his post-nuptial contract with Katherine Dunbar regarding possible payment, from his estate, of 18000 merks to his only (surviving) son Ludovick. It was found that the son could draw nothing until his father's debts were paid. 1 2 3
