James Strachan was a merchant in Aberdeen. He died insolvent, and a court case arose as a result of his post-nuptial contract with Katherine Dunbar regarding possible payment, from his estate, of 18000 merks to his only (surviving) son Ludovick. It was found that the son could draw nothing until his father's debts were paid. ^{1 2 3}
