FORBES, Janet 1

  • Born: About 1540
  • Marriage (1): FORBES, William 4th of Corsindae 1
  • Marriage (2): FORBES, William of Fodderbirse 1

Another name for Janet was FORBES, Marjory.2

   User ID: E551.

Janet married William FORBES 4th of Corsindae, son of James FORBES 3rd of Corsindae and Margaret GORDON.1 (William FORBES 4th of Corsindae was born about 1540.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Janet (Forbes), who married (1) William Forbes of Corsindae"

from House of Forbes 1

Janet next married William FORBES of Fodderbirse, son of William FORBES 7th Lord Forbes and Elizabeth KEITH co-heiress of Inverugie.1 (William FORBES of Fodderbirse was born 2 March 1543(1544) 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

""Janet (Forbes), who married (1) William Forbes of Corsindae, (2) William Forbes of Fodderbirse."

from House of Forbes

"William of Fodderbirse and Logy Fintray, born 2 March 1543-44, married Marjory (see Note below), eldest daughter and co-heiress of Janet, daughter of Alexander Forbes of Tolquhoun, and relict of William Forbes of Corsindae, by whom he had issue. By a second marriage he had a son James, who married a daughter of William Forbes of Corsindae. William Forbes of Fodderbirse is mentioned amongst the members of his clan who were, in 1573, exempted by the Lords of Council and Session from the jurisdiction of the Earl of Huntly. He is also mentioned in the same cause in 1578."

from Scots Peerage (vol 4)

Note:

Clearly there is a disagreement regarding the name of the wife of this William Forbes. House of Forbes states that Alexander Forbes and Alison Anderson had two daughters: Janet and Isabel. It may be that Janet was also called Marjory, or that there was a daughter Marjory who did not survive to marry and Janet replaced her.
