STRACHAN, William Baronet of Thornton 1
- Born: About 1668
- Partnership (1): SPARK, Margaret
Another name for William was STRACHAN, Wm.
General Notes:
This William was the second child in this family to be given that name.
Sir William Strachan was titled 'of Thornton', but this may refer merely to the fact that he lived there, or it may have been accorded to him as a member of the old family from courtesy, or as being the designation by which he was best known. He was not proprietor of Thornton, for from before 1690, the property was possessed by a branch of the Forbes family. On 21 July 1715 a natural son of Sir William Strachan of Thornton, by Margaret Spark, was baptized at Marykirk and named William."
