STRACHAN, William 5th of GlenkindieAnother name for William was STRACHIN, William.1 User ID: X244. General Notes: "On the 20th July 1510, William Strachan, son and apparent heir of Duncan Strachan of Glenkindv, received a precept for a charter of the lands of Glenkindy, reserving the liferent thereof to the said Duncan and a reasonable terce to Margaret Lundy, his spouse (Reg. Sec. Sig., vol. iv.). On the 7th February 1528, William Strachan of Glenkindy received a remission for his absence from the army at the battle of Solway (Privy Seal Gifts, vol. ix.) Noted events in his life were: 1. lawsuit with Lord Elphinstone, 1535. 1 2. Dispute with Gilbert Gray, Master of Erskine, 1540. 1 3. Contract with Alexander Forbes of Towie, 2 June 1552. 1 William married Elizabeth GORDON of Fulziemont, daughter of Patrick GORDON in Fulziemont and Johnsleys, laird of Craig and Rachel BARCLAY.1 (Elizabeth GORDON of Fulziemont was born about 1487.) Marriage Notes: ".... in 1511, he (Duncan the 4th laird) granted a charter, confirmed by King James, 20th July, 1511, to William Strachan, his son and heir, reserving a life interest to the said Duncan, and to Margaret Lundy, his wife, her widow's tierce .... (This grant to William was no doubt made on the marriage of the latter to Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of Patrick Gordon of Fulzemont and Johnisleys...) |
