Family Name Gordon

Territorial Designation of Drimnin, Morvern, Argyllshire

Activity The estate of Drimnin seems to have belonged to the McLeans of Lochbuy prior to 1800. It was acquired about then by Sir Charles Gordon, son of William Gordon of Minmore, Banffshire. Charles Gordon was born in 1791 and died in 1845. He was secretary of the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland. His 4th son, Jose Clement, 1838-1914 inherited the estate. On his death the estate passed to his son and heir Charles Augustine Gordon who was born in 1882 and succeeded in 1914. He was a lieutenant in the 9th Battalion of the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment).

The family were staunchly Catholic.
