"James Fraser, younger of Belladrum, was active in Demerara and Berbice from at least the early 1790s. [....] James Fraser sold his Belladrum estate in 1828 to a Mr Stewart, who paid £80,000, but a court case followed in which Stewart successfully claimed that Fraser had misrepresented the value of the estate [Inverness Courier, 5 January 1831]. Fraser was bankrupt later in the year [Inverness Courier, 12 October 1831]."

"Captain James Fraser of Fanellan died in or before 1793, when his eldest son was his heir. His wife, Mary Hutchinson Fraser, died 6 July 1805. They had issue three sons and several daughters. Of the daughters, the youngest, Jamesina Grant, was married ( 1) to Lieutenant-Colonel William Campbell of the 78th Regiment, brother of Angus Campbell of Ensay; and (2) to John Stewart, who purchased the estate of Belladrum."
