Note: It is possible to read the above descriptive phrase as Elizabeth Hay being the wife of the father, James Hay. In the context, it probably is not to be interpreted in that way, but it is uncertain. It is also unclear if Hay is her maiden or married surname, though Scots practice tends to be to name the woman by her maiden surname. 1
