"John Paterson, born Forres 1697, son Alexander P. educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen, 1713-17; licen. by Presb. of Dalkeith 29th Dec. 1724; ord. to Dipple 22nd March 1727; called 14th Oct., trans, and adm. 23rd Nov. 1731 at Pitgaveny House, "where the parishioners of St Andrews do for ordinary resort to divine worship," a new church being then in course of erection ; died 20th April 1778. He marr. 18th Jan. 1728, Helen (died 7th Jan. 1769, aged 76), daugh. of Alexander Grant of Conrach, and widow of John Scot, min. of Dipple), and had issue Margaret, above the age of 16 in 1744 (marr. Bailie John Laing, merchant, Elgin), died 15th Nov. 1748 ; Alexander, min. of Rothes, born 30th Aug. 1730; Robert, min. of Spynie, born 8th April 1735."
