COCLARACHIE

"The lands of Coclarachie lie in the parish of Drumblade, Aberdeenshire."

"Coclarachie remained in possession of this family till 1767. The arms borne by Gordon of Coclarachie, not recorded, appear to have been : Azure, three boars' heads erased within a bordure or."

from Coclarachie 1

George married Daughter OLIPHANT, daughter of William OLIPHANT of Berridale and Christian SUTHERLAND.1 2 (Daughter OLIPHANT was born about 1497.)

  Marriage Notes:

"(William ((Oliphant)), who married about 1489 Christian Sutherland, daughter and heir of line of Alexander Sutherland of Duffus.[....] had issue [....])

(8) another daughter is said to have been married to George Gordon of Coclarachie."

from Scots Peerage (vol 6)

"George Gordon, of Milton of Noth in the parish of Rhynie, also designed 'of Coclarachie' in right of his second wife, was a son of Patrick Gordon of Fulzemont. According to the Balbithan MS. (p. 51) he was the fifth son, but according to Lord Huntly's Records of Aboyne (p. 210) he was the fourth son.[....]

George Gordon of Milton of Noth married (I) a daughter of Oliphant of Berridale, widow of Calder of Asloun, and by her had (Rec. of Aboyne, p. 210) :

1. George, afterwards of Coclarachie.

2. James.

3. Bessie (see Note below). Probably this is the Bessie Gordon who married Laurence Leith of Kirkton of Rayne, from whom descend Leith-Hay of Leithhall (Burke's Landed Gentry Leith-Hay)."

from Coclarachie

Note:

Bessie Gordon was Laurence Leith's second wife, and the timeline of the Leiths suggests that she was the granddaughter, rather than the daughter of George Gordon and his first wife.
