Jeremiah Black was a coal miner, as recorded in the birth certificate of his daughter Sarah.

Jeremiah was the father in law of Peter Quigley. He was recorded as 'coal miner' in his daughter's marriage certificate. ^{2 3}

Jeremiah married Mary Clark MENZIES on 1 October 1909 in The Manse, Holytown, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Mary Clark MENZIES was born 11 July 1889 at 4.00 am in Forrests Land, Holytown, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁴ and died in 1962 in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland ².)

  Marriage Notes:

John Dalziel Dykes, Minister of Holytown, married the couple after publication of banns, according to the forms of the Church of Scotland.The witnesses were Wm Watson and Helen Lenman (?).

Jeremiah Black, a coalminer, single, aged 23 years, lived at 18 Bairds Square Holytown.

Mary Clark Menzies was 20 years old and lived at the same address. She was single.

The marriage was registered on 4 October 1909 at Holytown.

Note: The only Jeremiah Black found in the Lanarkshire area was born in 1883 to Peter Black and Elizabeth Ann Smith, married 1879 in Dalziel parish or district. This person also appears in the 1901 census. If this Jeremiah's parents' details are correct he may have moved to Scotland from elsewhere.
The Merchant Navy Seamen's Records list a Jeremiah Black born in County Antrim,Ireland about 1877. The Irish Civil Register records a birth of two children naed Jeremiah Black in Ballymena, one in 1884 and one 1886.
