"(Captain Alexander Forbes of Inverernan) married Elizabeth, the daughter of James Grant of Clurie, 1774, and the property was passed to his eldest son, Major Alexander Forbes of Inverernan, 71st Highlanders (1775-1830). He married Margaret Sarah (d 1868), daughter of Forbes Mitchell of Thainston, 1809, and was succeeded by his sister, Mary Ann Forbes of Inverernan (d 1848).
Mary Ann married the Rev George Forbes, DD of Blelach, the brother of Sir Charles Forbes, 1st Bt of Newe (d 1834). They had two sons and six daughters, and their eldest son, Gen Sir John Forbes, G C B of Inverernan (18171906) had a distinguished military career and married Amelia Sandelia, daughter of Col Adam Augustus Drummond. They had six sons and five daughters." 1 4
George married Mary Ann FORBES, daughter of Captain Alexander FORBES of Inverernan, 97th Regiment and Elizabeth GRANT, on 16 April 1809 in Strathdon parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 2 (Mary Ann FORBES was born about 1780 1 and died on 19 April 1848 1.)

(Marischal College 1814); dem. 1st Feb. 1830; died suddenly 16th Feb. 1834. He marr. 16th April 1809, Mary Ann (died 19th April 1848, aged 68), only daugh. of Captain Alexander Forbes of Inverernan, and had issue Catherine Stewart, born 10th Jan. 1810, died 16th Nov. 1869; Elizabeth Grant, born 8th June 1811 (marr. Robert Meiklejohn, min. of this parish) ; Christian Shepherd, born 10th May 1813, died at Bruges, 21st April 1885; Mary Mitchell, born 10th Sept. 1814 (marr. 15th April 1852, Henry St John Howard, D.D.), died 21st April 1885; Johanna, born 10th Nov. 1815, died in infancy; General Sir John of Inverernan, G.C.B., born 10th June 1817, died 6th July 1906; Georgina, born Oct. 1818, died in infancy; Alexander, W.S., born 6th Oct. 1819, died 27th June 1849; Charles (daugh.), born 15th Nov. 1820."
