"George Meldrum of Crombie, in Marnoch, born 1616, second son of John M. of Laithers and Margaret Duff; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1637); licen. by Presb. of Aberdeen; pres. by Alexander, Lord Spynie, Nov. 1643, and by George, Marquess of Huntly, in Jan., and ord. 24th April 1644; was suspended 25th May 1664 for his refusal to acknowledge Episcopacy, and dep. 5th Oct. following. He retired to Crombie; returned to this charge in 1690, when he was a member of Assembly 16th Oct., and one of the Commission for visiting north of the Tay; died Nov. 1692. He marr. Jan. 1680, his cousin Jean (died in 1725), second daugh. of Alexander Duff of Keithmore, and had issue Jean (marr. James Duff of Crombie, second son of Provost William Duff of Inverness); Helen, (marr. Alexander Abercrombie of Glassaugh); Isobel (marr. George married Jean DUFF, daughter of Alexander DUFF of Keithmore and Helen GRANT, in January 1680.¹ (Jean DUFF was born about 1653 and died in 1725 ³.)

"In the Records of Old Aberdeenn we find the following entry :

'January I6th, 1680. Money received by Kirk Session of St. Machar's Church of Aberdeen, for licences granted to persons to marrie without proclamation of Banes. Mr. George Meldrum of Crombie and Jean Duff, daughter of Alexander Duff - £20. 0. 0.' "
