  General Notes:

In the 1851 census Matthew was aged 34 years and living at 12 Glasgow Road, Wishaw, Lanarkshire. He was recorded as a tile maker and a widower. His son Thomas aged 4 years was with him. His daughter, martha, aged 2 years, was recorded as a visitor, living at 85 Glasgow Road, Wishaw, an Irish household. Both Thomas and Martha had been born in Ireland.

Matthew Lindsay was a coal miner according to the marriage certificate of his son, Matthew, in 1874.

When his wife Margaret died in 1881, she was recorded as an agricultural servant and widow of Matthew Lindsay, coal miner.


Matthew married Ann WHITE about 1845 in County Laois. Ireland. (Ann WHITE was born about 1820 and died before 30 March 1851.)


Matthew next married Margaret MORAN, daughter of William MORAN and Catharine WARD, on 30 October 1868 in Bothwell manse, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Margaret MORAN was born in 1826 in Ireland 2 and died 9 November 1881 at 6.45 am in 14 Addie's Square, Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2.). The cause of her death was cancer of the uterus.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland.

Matthew Lindsay was a collier, 52 years old. Margaret Morren was recorded as 43 years of age and she made her X mark.

Their address was Addie's Square Bellshill.
