When Mary McAlinden died in 1932 she was recorded in her death certificate as the widow of Hugh McAlinden, quarryman.

Hugh McLinden was recorded as a "Quarryman (deceased)" in the 1935 marriage certificate of his daughter Catherine. ^{2 3 4}

Hugh married Mary VALLELY (DNA Link), daughter of Thomas VALLELY (DNA Linked) and Catharine QUIN (DNA Linked), on 11 July 1895 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Mary VALLELY (DNA Link) was born on 3 March 1865 in Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 20 June 1932 at 8.45 am in 80 Biggar Road, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was pharyngitis over 6 days, hyperpyrexia and disordrered action of the heart over 24 hours.

The marriage was solemnised after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father Patrick Hackett and the witnesses were John McManus and Lizzie Vallely.

Hugh McLinden worked as a quarryman. He lived at Spoutscroft near the village of Cleland. He was unmarried and aged 24 years. His parents, Henry McLinden, a general labourer, and Mary Jane Burke, were both living.

Mary Valleley was also unmarried and aged 29 years. She lived at Wyndedge near Cleland in the western district of Shotts. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Cleland on 12 July 1895, the signing registrar being Edward Sommerville. ^{1 5}
