General Notes:
The 1881 census recorded Patrick, the eldest child in his household, living at Penman's Land, Biggar Road, Chapelhall. He was aged 8 years, and had been born in Bothwell parish.
James Patrick O'Donnell died aged 11 years in 1884. His death certificate recorded that he had been a "Nipper with Railway Labourers". In the Register of Corrected Entries can be found the Report of a precognition into the death of James Patrick O'Donnell. the Report was certified by the Procurator Fiscal's Office on 17 June 1884, and signed by William Richard:
"James Patrick O'Donnell 11 years male
Died about 9am 12 June 1884 at High Rows Chapelhall
By being severely crushed by two Railway waggons, survived about 5 hours
