  General Notes:

The 1871 census for Hamilton Lanarkshire recorded Catherine Vallely living at 2 Low Patrick Street with her husband and their six children aged from 3 months to 13 years. Catherine was recorded as aged 30 years and had been born in Ireland.

The 1881 census recorded Catherine Vallely living at 29 Church Street with her husband, 6 children, a niece and Catherine's mother. Catherine was recorded as aged 41 years, and had been born in Ireland. 2 6


Catherine married John VALLELY, son of James VALLELY in Glebe and Mary McGURK, on 23 February 1857 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (John VALLELY was born in Ireland 2 6, baptised on 17 September 1826 in Dungannon parish, County Tyrone, Ireland 7 and died 31 December 1896 at 11.30 pm in 60 Eddlewood Rows, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was cardiac disease.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was conducted according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Father Michael O'Keffe [sic] RCC was the celebrating priest and the witnesses were James Vallely and Mary Jane Vallely.

John Vallely, the groom, was a bachelor of 25 years of Mossend. He worked as a collier.

His bride, Catherine Brody [sic] was also unmarried and of Mossend. She was 19 years old.

Both bride and groom signed the book. The marriage was registered at Uddingston on 25 February 1857, John Pearson Watson being interim registrar. The marriage was thus registered in the administrative parish of Bothwell. 1
