1. VALLELY, Bridget

McCORMICK, Edward

  • Born: 1835
  • Marriage (1): VALLELY, Bridget on 27 January 1856 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1

  General Notes:

The 1880 US census recorded a family whose head and wife were Edward McCormick and Bridget McCormick. Edward was aged 45 and was Irish born. He was a labourer. Bridget was also 45 and was born in Scotland. She kept house. They had 4 sons: James (23), Thomas (15), Edward (11) and William (9). The family were living in Pittsburg Pennsylvania and all the boys were recorded as being born there. The 3 older boys worked in factories; the youngest was at school. The birthplace of the father and mother of everyone in the entry was inscribed as Ireland. This was a bit strange as the mother of the 4 boys was inscribed as having been born in Scotland. It's possible that due to an error, the 'born in Scotland' information should have applied to the eldest boy James, and that the 2 parents were actually born in Ireland. 2

Edward married Bridget VALLELY, daughter of Charles VALLELY in Gortin & Glebe and Sarah BRIENS, on 27 January 1856 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Bridget VALLELY was born in 1834 in Ireland and was baptised on 16 March 1834 in Dungannon parish, County Tyrone, Ireland 3.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Duncan McNab CC of St Margaret's in Airdrie was the priest who married the couple. John McGuill and Jane McGinty were the witnesses.

Edward was aged 20, a miner from Rawyards in the New Monkland parish. He made his X mark. His mother was still living but his father was deceased.

Bridget was aged 20 and from Rawyards. She was a mill worker. She made her X mark. Her father was dead and her mother still living.

The marriage was registered on January 30 1856, William Landless registrar. 1
