There was a christening date of 27 September 1829 recorded for a son, James Finlay, of David Finlay and Jean Smith at Galston, Ayrshire, ie thirteen days after the birth of a son called Samuel to the same parents. No christening date was given for Samuel. Later in 1840 another James Finlay was born to the same parents. ¹
