"On June 15, 1686, the Duke was empowered by Parliament to build a bridge across the Bogie. At this time, James Stewart of Auchorachan, as chamberlain of the lands of Strathdon and Glenlivet, Achmore and Achnastank, got a discharge (April 13, 1686) from the Duke 'in respect of the whole money rent of the said rent, payable at Martinmas 1684, conform to a rental subscribed be us' ('Elgin Commissary Records')."

Saising James Stewart of Achorachan of the lands of Eastertoune of Lesmurdie, comprehending the third pairt lands of Inverchirach, Achnastank and Bellchirie, and Mylne of Lesmurdie, and the lands of Drywells, Boigehead, Coldstrype, Mylnetoune, Aldluy, Sococh, Forteiths tack and pertinents yrof, within the parochin of Mortlich, upon a charter under the great seall to Alexr Stewart of Lesmurdie, and by him assigned and disponed to the said James Stewart."

James married Margaret DUFF, daughter of Alexander DUFF of Keithmore and Helen GRANT.1 (Margaret DUFF was born about 1651.)

"James Stewart, of Auchorachan, thereafter of Lesmurdie, appears to have m. Margaret, eldest dau. of Alexander Duff, of Keithmore, and by her had, Alexander Stewart, his son, and others, and a dau., m. to Mr. Syme. minister at Mortlach."
