  General Notes:

Ann Summers was recorded by the 1861 census as the elder of the two daughters of her mother, named there 'Ann Summers' but actually 'Agnes'. Ann Summers, daughter, lived with her mother, her sister Alice, and two female lodgers in a small dwelling on Main Street in the village of Barrhead in Renfrewshire. She was unmarried and was 20 years of age. She worked as a muslin bleacher and had been born in Ireland.

The 1871 census for Neilston, Barrhead, in Renfrewshire, recorded Ann Summers living with her widowed mother in Main Street. Seven lodgers also occupied the dwelling. Ann was unmarried and recorded as aged 27 years. No occupation was noted for her. Her birthplace was Ireland.

The 1881 census for Neilston recorded Ann living with her widowed mother, also Ann's niece, Agnes Lynch, and three boarders, at Main Street, Young's Land. Ann was recorded as being 26 years old and born in County Sligo, Ireland. No occupation was entered against her name. She was also recorded in the handicap column as 'imbecile'.

In 1891 'Annie Summers' was recorded living with her mother, Agnes, at Young's Land in Main Street, Neilston, Barrhead, Renfrewshire. She was unmarried and her age was recorded as 46 years. Her birthplace was Ireland. No occupation for her was noted.

Ann Summers died in the August of 1891. She was recorded in her death certificate as having been a bleachfield worker, and was single. Her age was noted as 48 years. 1 3 4

John McKinlay, physician and surgeon, certified the cause of death.

Agnes Summers, mother of the deceased woman, who was present where her death occurred, notified the registrar, Alex. Watson, at Barrhead on 10 August 1891 and made her X mark. 3
