The 1851 census for Elba Street, Wallacetown in the parish of St Quivox, Ayrshire recorded the Buchanan family. It consisted of Samuel Buchanan, his wife Elizabeth, and their four children: Elizabeth, James, Samuel and Mary. Samuel senior was an agricultural labourer aged 33 years. His birthplace was Ireland, as it was for all the household except the very youngest who was 6 months old. 4


Samuel married Elizabeth COPLAND. (Elizabeth COPLAND was born in 1819 in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland 1 4.)
