The cause of James' death was certified by John MacKinlay MD who last saw him on 29 October 1858.

Agnes Summers, the mother of the boy, who was present where his death occurred, informed the registrar John Gardiner on 30 October 1858 and made her X mark.

Patrick Reidy, sexton, certified the burial of James in the burial ground of St John's RC Church in Barrhead.
