Helen married Mr Andrew MELVILLE of Baldovy 28 October 1637(contract).1 2 (Mr Andrew MELVILLE of Baldovy was born about 1605.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Helen (Lindsay), who was married (contract dated 28 October 1637), first, to Mr. Andrew Melville of Baldovy, and secondly, to Andrew Arbuthnott of Fiddes, a brother of Viscount Arbuthnott." (page 514)

from Scots Peerage (vol 1)

"The fortalice and manor of Baldovie are mentioned in a charter of July 1607 by Richard Mellvill of Baldovie granting to Nicole Melvill, his wife, in liferent of the lands of Baldovie. In October 1637 Richard and Nicole signed a contract with John Lindsay, son of Alexander Lindsay of Canterland, by which their son, Andrew Melvill, and John's sister, Helen Lindsay, would be granted the lands of Baldovie with the tower, manor, mill, fisheries and the fishing on the Southesk upon their proposed marriage.

Helen next married Andrew ARBUTHNOTT of Fiddes, son of Sir Robert ARBUTHNOTT of Arrat, later 17th of that Ilk and Margaret FRASER, about 1650.2 (Andrew ARBUTHNOTT of Fiddes was born about 1619.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Andrew, of Fiddes. He had a charter from John Udny of that Ilk, of the lands of Torlairtoun in Aberdeenshire, dated 2 December 1642, confirmed 1 March 1650. He purchased the estate of Fiddes from his cousin, Robert Arbuthnott, and was infeft therein on 18 August 1651. He married Helen Lindsay, daughter of Sir David Lindsay of Edzell, and relict of Melville of Baldovie, and 'died in the flower of his age of that disease his father died and in likelihood had propagated to him.' He is said to have had many children" (page 302)

from Scots Peerage (vol 1)

Note:

The Scots Peerage, volume 9 Addenda et Corrigenda adds a correction to the above paragraph:

"p. 302, 1. 6 from foot, before 'Melville,' insert 'Richard.' "

However this cannot be correct, in fact, because the 1637 contract, though signed by Richard Melville and John Lindsay, Helen's brother, grants the lands of Baldovie to Richard's son, Andrew Melville, and John's sister, Helen Lindsay, upon their proposed marriage.

The Scots Peerage, volume 1, page 514, also confirms that Andrew Melville, not Richard, was Helen's spouse. 2 3
