"James Gordon killed Robert Leith of Overhall in a duel and escaped from the Tolbooth in Aberdeen, where he was imprisoned, on Aug. 19, 1698. According to the 'Book of Bon-Accord' (p. 205), he intoxicated his jailers. The affair created a great sensation in the town"
