  General Notes:

"1592-1595

3 September 1595. (a) Commission by William, earl of Mortoune, `scheref warditour' of Banff, to James, Ogilvie of Blarok, as depute. (b) 27 September 1592. Commission by William earl of Mortoun, `wardator' of sheriffdom of Banff to George Barklay advocate in Aberdene as sheriff Clerk"

from GD150/1631

Note:

The designation 'of Blarock' suggests, in the Banff context, 'of Blackrock'. It is rendered sometimes as of 'Blerack', which has been transformed to 'of Blelack', by association perhaps with the Gordons of Blelack. The latter place, however, is in Aberdeenshire and appears unrelated to this family, whereas the first is a part of the maritime approach to Banff.

"At the western extremity of the links the Burn of Boyndie enters the sea; opposite part of the links area series of low jagged rocks known as the Tumblers. Banff is approached by way of the Elf Kirk, the Black Rock, the Babes, the Boot and the Broad Craig; and close by the harbour are Meavie Point and Feachie Craig."
