ALEXANDER HAY

An "Alexander Hay of Knockando Chamberland to the Earl of Erroll" is named in a list of idividuals "For the Shyre of Aberdeen" in a list of "Commissioners of Supplie" in the 1698 "Act Anent the Supply of Sixteen Months Cess upon the Land Rent" during the reign of William III.

It is not yet clear whether it refers to this man ofr his son.

He may or may not also be the same as the
"Alexander Hay, burgess of Elgin, who is mentioned in Gordons of Cairnfield. 2 3


Alexander married Issobel GORDON, daughter of Robert GORDON Burgess of Elgin and Jean LESLIE, by 31 October 1652.1 2 (Issobel GORDON was born about 1620 and died after 1648.)

'I, Andro Andersone in Dalachie, grants me to haif ressavit (declare that I have received) from Issobell Gordone, relict of umqll. Johne Innes, brother german to umqll. Robert Innes of Dranie, and now spous to Alexander Hay of Knockandie, and the said Alexander Hay for his entress (interest)," . . . £203 6s 8d, and that in compleat payment of 500 merks . . . restand (resting) to me be the said umqll. Johne as principall, and James and Johne Gordones, lawfull sones to Robert Gordone of Mayne, his cautioners, conforme to their obligatione of dait 27th Nov. 1644. At Elgin 1st Jan. 1648, before Alexander Sherer in Cowfurrach; Robert Gordone, sometym of Mayne; and John Gordon, yr. of Auchinreth';
registered Oct. 31, 1652 (Elgin Commissary Record)."
