DE GORDUN, John 1
User ID: M388. General Notes: "John (de Gordun), referred to in a charter by his father of uncertain date as present at a perambulation of certain lands granted to the Abbey of Melrose. On 1 April 1313 King Edward II. wrote to Pope Clement V. recommending John and Thomas, sons of Sir Adam, to the care of his Holiness. Nothing further is known of John Gordon, and it is not clear whether he actually took holy orders. He may be the John Gordon whom Ferrerius and Gordon of Straloch celebrate as performing a feat of bravery at Berwick, and being killed there." |
