Though the baptisms of all the other children of Robert Muirhead and Agnes Wilson are found in Hamilton parish registers, Lanarkshire, none is found for a child named Agnes Muirhead. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography notes her birth as 1701, but it also notes her place of birth as Greenock. The first child of Robert Muirhead and Agnes Wilson was Margaret born in October 1700. Could Agnes have been baptised under one given name, but used another? That is not so unusual, and Margaret's birth/baptism date is very near to the birth year usually given for James Watt's wife.

Agnes married James WATT on 13 April 1729 in Hamilton parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (James WATT was born about 1695.)
