"I. Sir Robert Cumyn, fourth son of Red John Cumyn No. 1, married Geiles or Egidia, one of the three co-heiresses of William Cumyn of Lochaber, and left two sons:
1, Sir John; 2, Robert, whose name has often been confounded with his father's; but as the son lived until the latter end of Robert the Bruce's reign, and the father was killed at Dumfries in 1306, the mistake is palpable."
