"JAMES CHAPMAN, born Inverness, 1677, son of Robert C., merchant;educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A. (4th April 1695); licenc. by Presb. of Dalkeith 31st May 1699; ord. to Cawdor same year trans, and adm. 25th Nov. 1702; died at the end of the year 1737. He marr. Ann, daugh. of Alexander Cuthbert, Provost of Inverness, and had issue John in Resouple, served heir 6th Feb. 1741; Lewis, min. of Petty; Anne (marr. George Grant, min. of Kirkmichael). He compiled a Memoir of the family of Grant, which is preserved in MS. in the Scottish National Library, Edinburgh. [Playfair's Baronetage, iii. ; Index to Services.]"
