May Grant, born 1775, was the daughter of Alexander Grant and Margaret Davidson; she married a naval surgeon, Robert Innes, in 1805, though her name in the marriage index is noted as Margaret.

However, Margaret Grant, born 1723, who married Mungo Rannie in 1749, was Alexander Grant's daughter by his first wife, May Chalmers. ^{1 2}
