Sophia gave birth to two daughters in the same year, Jane on 31 January 1865, and Sophia on 16th December 1865.


The 1871 census for Aberlour recorded Charles Grant a the head of a household, living at 64 High Street, that comprised himself, his wife Sophia, his daughters Jane and Sophia, and Margaret Graham, a general domestic servant aged 29 years, born in Aberlour. Sophia Grant, mother of two, was recorded as 45 years of age and the parish schoolmaster's wife. She had been born in Wick in Caithnesshire. 1 2 3


Sophia married Charles GRANT M.A. Schoolmaster, son of Alexander GRANT Farmer and Grazil GRANT, on 18 December 1862 in 81 High Street, Elgin, Moray, Scotland.1 (Charles GRANT M.A. Schoolmaster was baptised on 22 June 1807 in Knockando, Moray, Scotland 5 and died 16 November 1892 at 10.00 am in Charlestown of Aberlour, Banffshire, Scotland 4.). The cause of his death was debility of old age and diarrhoea over 10 days.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The minister was James Sellar, Minister of Aberlour, Banffshire. The witnesses were Wm. Grigor and A. G. Sellar.

Charles was a single man aged 50 years who worked as a schoolmaster. He lived at Charlestown of Aberlour, Banffshire. Both of his parents were deceased.

Sophia G. Sellar was 37 years of age and single. She lived at 81 High Street Elgin.

The marriage was registered on 20 December 1862 at Elgin, the registrar being James Allan.
