Despite his surname William Strachan or Strahan was not related to George Strachan or Strahan the Scots born bookseller of books such as those of George Cheyne. Though they were members of the same profession, George Strahan was a generation older than William, and from a different family. There were some business dealings between the men but none such as would have been likely if they were related to each other. There may have been a class issue between them.
