"As eldest son and heir of Sir Richard Cumyn (probably on his marriage), he (Ferquhard) got a charter from Robert II. of the forestry of Drummynd and Tulloch, and of several davochs of land thereunto belonging. His father Sir Richard was still alive in 1407, when he signed as witness to the charter at Falkland, but appears to have died before the 28th of May 1408, when the marriage-contract of his grandson with Euffame, daughter of the Earl of Moray, was signed."

By now the family is known as 'Cuming'. We have the first formal reference to Altyre in the person of Ferqhuard [sic] Comyn in 1384. King Robert II bestows 'the forestership of Drummond and Tulloch' on Ferquhardo Cuming de Altyr'."
