  General Notes:

"It is not much above 300 years since the name of Baird was heard of in the north of Scotland .... The earliest writ in which it is mentioned that I have heard of, is among Sir James Innes', of Innes, papers. It is a precept of Sasine by John Lord Lindsay, of the Byres, directed to Beroald, John and Andrew, of Innes, and James the Barde, his bailies, for infefting James of Innes, of that Ilk, son to Sir Robert Innes, in the lands of Aberchyrdar, which he in
Boyne in Banffshire, and near the place where this James Baird was settled. It bears date February 1, 1464."

James married Janet GORDON, daughter of Sir Alexander SETON, THEN GORDON 1st Earl of Huntly and Jean CUMYN 'Fair Maid of Moray'.1 2 3 (Janet GORDON was born about 1447 and died before 1473 3.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Som through mistake have alleaged this Margaret Gordone (Janet's sister, who married Hugh Rose) to have been a naturall daughter of the familie of Huntlie; but George Marques of Huntly, (called with the lukkon hand) who certainly might best have known the truth of anie, told Mr. John Rose, father to the laird of Pettindreich, that he had her mothers contract of marriage in his charter kist. Her mother was Cuming, a daughter of the familie of Altyre, called, for her singular beauty, the Fair Maiden of Murray; and it was nothing strange that ane aged nobleman should marie such a gentlewoman for his fancie.
There was another of her daughters maried in the familie of Innes."

from Family of Rose of Kilravok

"This James Laird of Innes, had six sons and two daughters, that is to say, he had Alexander his eldest son, who succeeded him, Robert, who was first of Cromy and then of Rathmakenye, his second son, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Jannet, by the Earle of Huntlys daughter, and four sons more, viz. William, George, James and Thomas, by a second wyffe."

from Familie of Innes

"Janet, married to James Innes of that Ilk. She died about 1470 or before 1473."
