HAMILTON, James 1st Lord Hamilton, 6th of Cadzow, Sir ¹

James married Euphemia GRAHAM, daughter of Sir Patrick GRAHAM Earl of Strathearn, jure uxoris and Euphemia STEWART Countess Palatine of Strathearn, suo jure, after June 1439.¹ (Euphemia GRAHAM was born about 1402 and died by 1469 ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Euphemia, married, first, about 1425, to Archibald, fifth Earl of Douglas, who died in June 1439 ; secondly, to James Hamilton of Cadzow, afterwards first Lord Hamilton, and died in 1468 or 1469."

James next married Mary STEWART Princess of Scots, daughter of James STEWART King James II of Scots and Mary DE GUELDRES Queen of Scots, about February-March 1573.² (Mary STEWART Princess of Scots was born about 1451 and died about Whitsuntide 1488 ².)

  Marriage Notes:

"She (Mary Stewart) was ... confined at Kilmarnock, and the Earl, her husband, summoned to appear within sixty days, which he failing to do, his marriage with the King's sister was declared null and void, and she was compelled to marry James, Lord Hamilton. According to Ferrerius, Buchanan, and other old historians, this took place in 1469, but the correct date was probably February or March 1473-74."
