At the battle of Otterburne on 19 August 1388 he and his son Patrick gallantly saved the banner of Douglas from falling into the hands of the English .... Sir Patrick was alive on 22 June 1402, being then over eighty years of age. He married, first, Agnes .... By his first wife he was father of Patrick Hepburne younger of Hailes"
