  General Notes:

"Thomas was the younger son of Roland, lord of Galloway (d.1200), and Helen (d.1217), daughter of Richard de Morville, lord of Lauderdale and Cunningham, constable. He was brother of Alan (d.1234), lord of Galloway. He had married an unidentified woman before 1207-08 which produced a son. Before January 1210 he married Isabella (d.a.1242), daughter of Henry, earl of Atholl, from which he received the title of earl of Atholl. They had two sons, Patrick, and another. There was a son, Maduff, who may have been the child from the first marriage (d.1242) or an illegitimate son. Thomas had at least one illegitimate son, Alan. He was active in Ireland, holding lands in Ulster, centred at Coleraine, and Antrim castle, and was active in the Isles. Thomas died in 1231 and was buried at Coupar Abbey. He may have been killed in a tournament accident, as in 1252, Patrick, son of Constantine of Goswick, knight of the earl of Dunbar, was pardoned by Henry III for Thomas's death. R.D. " Before January 1210 he married Isabella (d.a.1242), daughter of Henry, earl of Atholl, from which he received the title of earl of Atholl."

from poms website

"ISABELLA, eldest daughter of Earl Henry and of his Countess Margaret, succeeded to her father as Countess of Atholl, in her own right. A claim was, however, made by her sister which was decided against by King Alexander II. in Parliament, who adjudged the earldom to Isabella as the eldest daughter. Little is known of her apart from her husband, Thomas of Galloway, who was son of Roland, Lord of Galloway, and brother of Allan of Galloway, both Constables of Scotland, and who through her was styled Earl of Atholl."
